The morphol. of ellipsoidal and flat single crystals of [COC6H4-p-CONH(CH2)6NHCOC6H4-p-CO2(CH2)6O]n (I) [61269-85-0] formed by crystn. at 72-118° from dil. solns. in PhCH2OH was examd. by wide- and narrow-angle x-ray scattering measurements. The long spacing of the crystals was independent of the crystn. temp. but showed a quantized increase on annealing. The thermal behavior of I was examd. by differential scanning calorimetry and by IR spectrometry. A chain folding model based on tight fold and adjacent reentry is proposed for I.
