Abstract
The old Constantinian church of Hagia Eirene was rebuilt by Justinian after its destruction during the Nika revolt of A.D. 532. It underwent to a number of restorations and remodelling, from the Middle Byzantine up to the late Ottoman era. The article focuses on the non-figural mosaic fragments belonging to the decoration of the walls and vaults of the narthex, only in part published by Walter Sykes George in 1912. Moreover, the article provides a survey of the still extant fragments, stressing the close stylistic resemblances with the first phase of the mosaic decoration of the nearby Saint Sophia (A.D. 532-537).I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
