Spatial solitons in planar glass structures can create reconfigurable guiding channels where low-intensity light bits can propagate. By using 3-ps-long pulses the solitonic regime has been reached and, within this solitonic channel, a picosecond signal at the typical intensities of the fibre telecommunications was carried. At the output the carried signal had the same size of the solitonic channel, keeping its hyperbolic secant shape. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract
Spatial solitons in planar glass structures can create reconfigurable guiding channels where low-intensity light bits can propagate. By using 3-ps-long pulses the solitonic regime has been reached and, within this solitonic channel, a picosecond signal at the typical intensities of the fibre telecommunications was carried. At the output the carried signal had the same size of the solitonic channel, keeping its hyperbolic secant shape. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V.
