Studied the representation of the parental couple in 60 male and female children and adolescents (aged 12-14 yrs) and 100 male and female adults (parents) in Italy. The Family Drawing Test (L. Corman, 1967), an Adjective Checklist (D. Capozza, 1977), and the Adult Attachment Scale (C. Hazen and P. Shaver, 1987) were used. The drawings produced by both children and parents were codified and assessed using the Priority Scale, the Size Scale, the Relevance Scale (K. Polacek and D. Carli, 1997), and the Attachment Scale (A. S. Bombi and G. Pinto, 1993) were used. Factor analysis, analysis of variance, and other statistical methods were used. Four factors associated with representation of the parental couple were identified: stability, activity, flexibility, and entreaty. The results were used to construct a family model characterized by the parental couple as a source of stability for relationships and for continuity in family experiences. Implications for the study of family dynamics are discussed. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)
