Pseudorheumatoid nodules of childhood

Pseudorheumatoid nodules in children are thought to be a specific variant of granuloma annulare. These histologically isolated entities resemble rheumatoid nodules, but are not related to rheumatic or rheumatoid diseases or other pathologies. Pseudorheumatoid nodules are benign, self-limited lesions of unknown cause, with a chronic evolution, that generally originate on pretibial regions and the scalp. We report on two cases presenting with respectively isolated and multiple subcutaneous nodules. Both children were healthy and free from any systemic illness. The knowledge of this condition is important to prevent misdiagnosis. No therapy is indicated and the patients and their families need only to be reassured on the possible evolution of the disease.
