Logistics plays an important role in the life cycle of a radar system as it heavily affects the product availability and the global costs borne by the End User. The activities required to reach an efficient and effective logistic support can be divided in two areas, the first concerning the need to affect the product design process and the second concerning the identification and management of the support resources. One of the main activities in the latter area is provisioning, that is providing the product with the spare parts required to support it during its life. The present article deals with the optimization of the scheduling of a spare parts provisioning plan for a given number of systems whose delivery is spread on a given time window. The problem was approached through process simulation modeling since analytical methods turned out to be almost impossible to solve in a reasonable time for a large number of systems. The simulation software used was Witness (rel.9.10). The study was conducted within a collaboration between Oerlikon-Contraves Italia S.p.A. and 'La Sapienza' University of Rome.
