Abstract

It's in the air. The authors detected by neutralization - reionization mass spectrometry the nitrogen hydroxide oxide 3, which is relevant to atmospheric chemistry and a key intermediate in the NO3 2- reduction, as a gaseous radical species with a lifetime of 1 μs. The charged precursor utilized was the high-energy isomer 2 from the protonation of HNO 3, whereas the more stable isomer 1 dissociates upon neutralization.
