The definition of an absorption system suitable for small hybrid vehicles is introduced. Various alternatives have been considered, taking critical aspects into account, such as the poor space availability, the shape constraints, the limits on the total weight. System operation has been simulated under various running conditions. The feasibility of the different possible solutions is ascertained. Advantages and disadvantages of each alternative layout are discussed in the paper and a final choice is performed. Copyright © 2001 Society of Automotive Engineers, Inc.

Abstract
The definition of an absorption system suitable for small hybrid vehicles is introduced. Various alternatives have been considered, taking critical aspects into account, such as the poor space availability, the shape constraints, the limits on the total weight. System operation has been simulated under various running conditions. The feasibility of the different possible solutions is ascertained. Advantages and disadvantages of each alternative layout are discussed in the paper and a final choice is performed.
