OVER THE last few years, new models of specific immunomodulation have been sought after in order to identify new immunosuppressive agents that could decrease the antibody production and allow prevention of chronic rejection. MMF specifically inhibits B and T lymphocytes proliferation, by a selective blockage of the DNA synthesis, following its noncompetitive inhibition of the enzyme inosinemonophosphate dehydrogenase.1,2 Acting both on cellular and humoral immune response, MMF should prove more useful when compared to azathioprine (AZA). The aim of the study was to assess the safety and efficacy of a MMF immunosuppressive regimen for kidney grafting, to evaluate its impact on graft survival rates and rejection episodes.

Abstract
OVER THE last few years, new models of specific immunomodulation have been sought after in order to identify new immunosuppressive agents that could decrease the antibody production and allow prevention of chronic rejection. MMF specifically inhibits B and T lymphocytes proliferation, by a selective blockage of the DNA synthesis, following its noncompetitive inhibition of the enzyme inosinemonophosphate dehydrogenase.1,2 Acting both on cellular and humoral immune response, MMF should prove more useful when compared to azathioprine (AZA). The aim of the study was to assess the safety and efficacy of a MMF immunosuppressive regimen for kidney grafting, to evaluate its impact on graft survival rates and rejection episodes.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
