Three-wave interaction in a quadratic nonlinear medium under exact phase-matched conditions is investigated. Analytical solutions of the problem show that the behaviour of the fields can be described by a nonlinear coupling phenomenon driven by the input powers. A description in terms of an intensity dependent phase modulation is not adequate here.
