A 2D Cosserat continuum with an isotropic damage model for brittle materials is presented with the aim of describing the complex damaging paths of pre-stressed masonry panels under shear displacement loading. Two different damaging mechanisms in tension and compression are considered. A 4-node quadrilateral finite element for plane problems is formulated with two translational and one rotational degrees of freedom for each node and a predictor-corrector procedure is used to solve the evolutionary problem of the damage variables. Some numerical tests are presented on masonry panels with different geometrical properties both under monotonic and cyclic loadings.

Abstract
A 2D Cosserat continuum with an isotropic damage model for brittle materials is presented with the aim of describing the complex damaging paths of pre-stressed masonry panels under shear displacement loading. Two different damaging mechanisms in tension and compression are considered. A 4-node quadrilateral finite element for plane problems is formulated with two translational and one rotational degrees of freedom for each node and a predictor-corrector procedure is used to solve the evolutionary problem of the damage variables. Some numerical tests are presented on masonry panels with different geometrical properties both under monotonic and cyclic loadings.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
