This paper reports a review of the experimental results obtained driving finite piezoelectric structures at high voltage levels. A large number of nonlinear oscillating phenomena are set in evidence; among them: harmonics, subharmonics and fractional-frequency pairs generation, internal modulation effect and the period-doubling phenomenon routing to chaotic oscillations; moreover a window of periodic oscillations within a region of chaotic oscillations is also presented.

Abstract

This paper reports a review of the experimental results obtained driving finite piezoelectric structures at high voltage levels. A large number of nonlinear oscillating phenomena are set in evidence; among them: harmonics, subharmonics and fractional-frequency pairs generation, internal modulation effect and the period-doubling phenomenon routing to chaotic oscillations; moreover a window of periodic oscillations within a region of chaotic oscillations is also presented.
