A genetic algorithm is proposed for determining the power transformation that turns an arbitrary even dissimilarity into a metric. The objective function, which depends on the standard dissimilarity measure chosen, is the metric index. The results on determining the metric index for some standard dissimilarity measures on binary vectors using genetic algorithm will be presented.
