The authors are developing an original model based on the queuing theory allowing the calculation of the transit time through railway freight terminals (TTR). The paper focuses on sea – rail interchanges in ports and describes the model customisation to ports applications and the results obtained in some case studies. Particular aspects described in this paper are linked to the quantification of the effects of relevant parameters affecting the quality of the model results: 1. different typologies and sizes of intermodal units; 2. additional unit movements due to co-existence of empty and full unit flows.

Abstract
The authors are developing an original model based on the queuing theory allowing the calculation of the transit time through railway freight terminals (TTR). The paper focuses on sea – rail interchanges in ports and describes the model customisation to ports applications and the results obtained in some case studies. Particular aspects described in this paper are linked to the quantification of the effects of relevant parameters affecting the quality of the model results: 1. different typologies and sizes of intermodal units; 2. additional unit movements due to co-existence of empty and full unit flows.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
