In the present work the hydrodynamic oil flow in tilting-pad thrust bearings is analyzed. Since the simple application of the classical Reynolds and Michell theories does not offer, in many cases, satisfying results, a numerical approach is adopted. This method is quite general and allows to investigate about any kind of geometry. The developed numerical model, which has been applied to one particular sample from the Kingsbury bearings catalogue, is able to detect all the fluid dynamic fields of interest. The obtained results can be used to improve the knowledge on the pad surface deterioration.

Abstract
In the present work the hydrodynamic oil flow in tilting-pad thrust bearings is analyzed. Since the simple application of the classical Reynolds and Michell theories does not offer, in many cases, satisfying results, a numerical approach is adopted. This method is quite general and allows to investigate about any kind of geometry. The developed numerical model, which has been applied to one particular sample from the Kingsbury bearings catalogue, is able to detect all the fluid dynamic fields of interest. The obtained results can be used to improve the knowledge on the pad surface deterioration.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
