The growing number of foreign students in the schools of Rome has become a composite multi-ethnic reality that in many cases has already exceeded the local situation. Often, due to the little or no knowledge of the Italian language, the children and the young foreigners are inserted into classes well below their age and/or the education gained in the Country of origin, finishing to close at every possibility of cultural growth. The daily process of teaching ends up relegating foreign students in a space liminale that sees them parked between an original culture no longer lived (and often denied) and a new reality that does not accept them. Children who were born in Rome to immigrant parents, and then began to attend schools in Italy, in a situation where there is difficulty of insertion, they combine with a concomitant rejection of the culture of origin. If on the one hand there is a risk of an exclusion, on the other side we are witnessing the birth of a social multi-ethnic world of school highly not personalized.
Il numero crescente di alunni stranieri nelle scuole romane è diventato una composita realtà multietnica che in molti casi ha già superato la realtà locale. Spesso, a causa della scarsa o nulla conoscenza della lingua italiana, i bambini e i ragazzi stranieri vengono inseriti in classi ben inferiori alla loro età e/o alla preparazione scolastica acquisita nel Paese di origine, finendo per chiudersi ad ogni possibilità di accrescimento culturale. L’iter quotidiano dell’attività didattica finisce per relegare gli studenti stranieri in uno spazio liminale che li vede parcheggiati tra una cultura originaria non più vissuta (e spesso rinnegata) e una realtà nuova che però non li accetta. Nei bambini nati a Roma da genitori immigrati, e che quindi hanno iniziato a frequentare le scuole in Italia, là ove si registrano difficoltà di inserimento, esse si coniugano con un contestuale rifiuto della cultura di origine. Se da una parte esiste dunque il rischio di un’esclusione, dall’altra stiamo assistendo alla nascita di un paesaggio sociale e scolastico multietnico altamente depersonalizzato.
