The aim of this work is to examine the feasibility of a methodology which allows to test a satellite structure without payloads and then to include the effects of nonstructural masses (electronic boxes, propellant, etc...) by means of structural modification techniques. This procedure might be convenient during design and test processes. First simple structures have been studied and then a numerical analysis on a finite element model of the scaled structure of the ITALSAT satellite has been performed.
