The treatment of lacuna is a phenomenological problem that involves both aesthetic and figurative aspects, as well as spatial and perceptive issues. The case of the Italian garden of the Castle of San Giustino offers the opportunity to think over the possibility of considering the losses as an interruption of a continuity that is in the same time formal but, architecturally speaking, also spatial. Past interventions and the lack of continuous maintenance have led to the current absence of water and variation on the ground level. Furthermore, the fountains characterized by polychrome mosaics have gaps, thus revealing parts of the underlying structure. The target of this contribution, born following the historical research and analysis of the state of degradation of the fountains, supported by the Direzione Regionale Musei Umbria, was to bring out reflections on the concept of gap, expressed in spatial and perceptive terms. This led us to consider the fountains, and every other component of the garden, not as episodic elements in themselves but as parts of a whole designed with aesthetic and phenomenological coherence.

Abstract
This led us to consider the fountains, and every other component of the garden, not as episodic elements in themselves but as parts of a whole designed with aesthetic and phenomenological coherence.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
