African amphorae, produced in various manufacturing centers of Africa Proconsularis and other North African provinces, were used to transport oil, wine, and other foodstuffs. Excavations carried out within the Ostia Marina Project have yielded numerous fragments of Late Antique African amphorae bearing epigraphic and anepigraphic stamps, as well as incised graffiti. This study aims to highlight the central role of North African production centers in Mediterranean trade and to examine the evolution of production strategies, commercial networks, and marking practices over time. Epigraphic stamps, mainly placed on the neck, served to certify quality, indicate capacity, or identify specific production batches, and were often associated with anepigraphic stamps featuring geometric symbols. These, together with incised graffiti, applied before firing, added after manufacture, supplied further information on contents, logistics, producers, traders, and, in some cases, fiscal matters.

Abstract
These, together with incised graffiti, applied before firing, added after manufacture, supplied further information on contents, logistics, producers, traders, and, in some cases, fiscal matters.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
