The study aims to investigate the space imagined by Hans Vredeman de Vries in the engravings of his treatise Perspective (1604). Its objective is to establish a systematic methodology for interpreting his perspectival constructions, using three selected plates as primary case studies. The proposed reading integrates two-dimensional graphic-geometric analysis with three-dimensional perspective restitution, highlighting the role of drawing as a tool for the critical interpretation of the space depicted by the author. The anomalies emerging from the restitution of the scenes - angular deformations, constructional discontinuities, proportional variations, and depth expansions - suggest that they were not conceived as coherent architectures but rather as scenographic devices intended to produce the illusion of a possible space. Vredeman designs environments with a formally ordered and geometrically persuasive structure which, although based on recognizable perspectival rules, construct a mental place rather than a habitable space. As in Atlante's castle, the formal apparatus becomes a device of visual seduction, capable of holding the observer within an optically consistent yet ontologically unstable construction.

Abstract
As in Atlante's castle, the formal apparatus becomes a device of visual seduction, capable of holding the observer within an optically consistent yet ontologically unstable construction.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
