A new species, Megaselia heimingshofensis sp. n., is described based on specimens collected in two regions of western and southern Germany and two sites in the Republic of Mordovia, Russia. The species is characterized by a distinctly thickened costa on the wing. Its inclusion in the sulphuripes species-group is supported by diagnostic features aligning with revised keys.
