I conflitti sulla salute

During the 1970s, health underwent profound change. On a social level, there were intense campaigns and initiatives led by a wide range of actors; at the institutional level, several reforms were introduced; in terms of knowledge, the drive to promote health – individual and collective – led to a renewal of medical and scientific knowledge and its paradigms. The starting point was the realisation that health was not a purely biological and individual phenomenon, but was linked to people’s living and working conditions, intertwined with multiple factors, and to overall well- being. Conflicts over health led to transformations that affected the social relations of production and reproduction, relationships between the sexes, interaction with the environment, institutions, and the foundations of democratic citizenship.
