A new layer of time

The restoration and adaptive reuse of Villa Donà in Costabissara, designed by RigonSimonetti, engages with the existing building by seeking an unprecedented harmony between the accumulated layers of material history and their morphological adaptation into a renewed inhabitable form. Rather than reconstructing an idealized image of the complex, the project makes visible the traces that time has deposited on the architecture, reinforcing its character as a palimpsest. The formal reconfiguration of the building reflects the architects’ intention to add a new layer of meaning to the gaps and discontinuities left by previous transformations.

Il progetto per Villa Donà a Costabissara, di RigonSimonetti, lavora sul vecchio manufatto cercando di stabilire una consonanza inedita tra le stratificazioni della materia e il suo adattamento morfologico a una forma abitabile possibile. Con questo progetto di restauro e adattamento, dunque, lo studio evita di ricostruire un’immagine idealizzata del complesso, ma rende leggibili le stratificazioni che il tempo ha depositato sull’architettura, accentuandone il concetto di palinsesto. L’accomodamento formale dell’edificio conferma la volontà dello studio di aggiungere un nuovo testo lacune lasciate dalle stratificazioni precedenti.
