Italo Mancini and Marco Maria Olivetti are united by the fact that they represent two important exceptions to the traditional suspicion of Catholic thought toward Immanuel Kant. Olivetti finds in Kant the decisive turning point that leads to the birth of the philosophy of religion, to ethics as first philosophy, and to a rethinking of the traditional figure of analogy in subjective terms. This does not, however, lead – contrary to appearances – to a complete abandonment of metaphysics. Mancini, by contrast, emphasizes the role of history, conceived as the sphere in which the persona Dei is revealed, and as the context in which the opposing demands of politics and religion necessarily coexist. Olivetti and Mancini thus express two Kantian paradoxes: the radical critique of metaphysics, which nevertheless amounts to its transformation rather than its abandonment; and the emancipatory and critical impulse of the Enlightenment, which coincides with the religious ideal of the highest good.

Abstract
Olivetti and Mancini thus express two Kantian paradoxes: the radical critique of metaphysics, which nevertheless amounts to its transformation rather than its abandonment; and the emancipatory and critical impulse of the Enlightenment, which coincides with the religious ideal of the highest good.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
