Italiani brava gente? Италијанске реакције на усташко насиље у Херцеговини 1941. године: случај Мостара и околине

The notion of Italiani brava gente (“Italians, good peo- ple”) encapsulates the idea that Italians were inherently benevolent, a view largely shaped by comparisons between Italian and German soldiers during the Second World War. Many historians have chal- lenged this interpretation by pointing to Italian war crimes. Within this broader debate, the Italian response to Ustaša violence against Serbs remains subject to conflicting interpretations. This article contributes to the debate by reassessing the Italian role in the un- derexplored context of Mostar and its surroundings in 1941, exami- ning cases of Italian rescue of Serbs and Jews, the exhumation of victims, and the reopening of previously closed Serbian churches
