The Spanish moral foundations questionnaire-2: Psychometric properties and predictive associations with intergroup attitudes

The Moral Foundations Questionnaire-2 (MFQ-2) was developed to offer a cross-culturally applicable instrument to assess the core dimensions of human morality. The main goal of the current research was to study the psychometric properties of the Spanish adaptation of the MFQ-2. To this end, we conducted four preregistered studies to evaluate the scale's factor structure, reliability, and validity. In Study 1 (n = 956), a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was employed to test the hypothesized six-factor structure of the MFQ-2 (Care, Equality, Proportionality, Loyalty, Authority, and Purity). Study 2 (n = 315) examined the convergent validity of the MFQ-2 by comparing it with the original Moral Foundations Questionnaire (MFQ-1). To assess the instrument's predictive validity, Studies 3 (n = 287) and 4 (n = 278) examined the relationships between MFQ-2 scores and negative attitudes toward individuals with obesity and toward migrants, respectively. Across all four studies, the Spanish version of the MFQ-2 and its subscales demonstrated adequate reliability. These findings suggest that the Spanish MFQ-2 possesses good psychometric properties, confirming its viability as a reliable and valid tool for the Spanish scientific community to investigate the complexities of moral foundations.
