This study examines the 4th-century opposition to the readmission of “Arian” clergy, tracing its “Luciferian” roots to earlier Roman traditions. It highlights conflicts with the Neonicene Church – specifically objections to Hilary of Poitiers’ De synodis – to show that while disciplinary disputes hindered cooperation, theological divisions over the “three hypostases” doctrine were the primary threat to Latin Church unity. The movement’s defining constant remained its refusal to reintegrate pro-Arian clergy
