All of Jacob Taubes’s reflections on the connection between theology and politics presuppose his engagement with Carl Schmitt’s thought. This text aims to reconstruct the relationship between these thinkers, considering the materials that Taubes collected in the 1987 Berlin publication and their correspondence. The two versions—the indirect account as recounted by Taubes and the direct account fur- nished by the letters—offer the most relevant insights into the key concepts of political theology and critical theory as they emerge in the work of the two thinkers. They also help us to reconstruct the essential theoretical lines of the troubled relationship between the Jewish Jacob Taubes and the Catholic and Nazi Carl Schmitt.

Abstract
All of Jacob Taubes’s reflections on the connection between theology and politics presuppose his engagement with Carl Schmitt’s thought. This text aims to reconstruct the relationship between these thinkers, considering the materials that Taubes collected in the 1987 Berlin publication and their correspondence. The two versions—the indirect account as recounted by Taubes and the direct account fur- nished by the letters—offer the most relevant insights into the key concepts of political theology and critical theory as they emerge in the work of the two thinkers. They also help us to reconstruct the essential theoretical lines of the troubled relationship between the Jewish Jacob Taubes and the Catholic and Nazi Carl Schmitt.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
