Abstract
This article is dedicated to the study of the mosaic pavements, marbles and terracotta reliefs, terracotta statuettes, frescoes, and material culture of the Roman and late Roman periods, to extract a representative sample of images related to amphorae. These containers were essential for a society that constantly needed various types of foodstuffs and appear in a range of contexts. Amphorae are depicted in different visual situations: from scenes of daily and commercial life, both public and funerary, to ritual uses as part of votive offerings, and into honorific and celebratory contexts.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
