‘Froumund fac’, ‘Pernger legat discipulus tuus’: glosse all’Ars Prisciani nel monastero di Tegernsee

This paper examines the textual relationships between the glosses on the Ars Prisciani preserved in three manuscripts: two codices of the work (München, Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, 280a; München, Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Clm 18375) and the Vienna manuscript once owned by Froumund of Tegernsee (Wien, Österreichische Nationalbibliothek, Cod. 114). Through a comparative analysis of these marginalia, the study also highlights the role played by Froumund in the acquisition and compilation of teaching materials relating to Priscian’s grammar for the school at Tegernsee, materials that remained in use in various forms until at least the 12th century.
