After reading The Holy Family, in a letter to Friedrich Engels dated March 1894, Antonio Labriola presented his intellectual development from idealism to historical materialism as analogous to that of Marx. In some respects, his trajectory was similar to that of the German philosopher, but certainly not identical. Following its development also means reconstructing the genesis of the "philosophy of praxis" as an original theoretical perspective. In Naples, in the early 1860s, Labriola came to know the critical Hegelianism of Bertrando Spaventa, based on a "reform" of Hegel's dialectics and on the "theory of the circulation of thought". He later became increasingly aware of the internal limits of idealism and, drawing on certain currents of post-Hegelian German philosophy, particularly Völkerpsychologie, formulated a critique of monistic metaphysics based on the "genetic method". Having arrived at Marxism, he translated this intellectual background into a new reading of historical materialism centred on the principle of praxis as living labour and culture, with its multiple theoretical and practical articulations.

Abstract
Having arrived at Marxism, he translated this intellectual background into a new reading of historical materialism centred on the principle of praxis as living labour and culture, with its multiple theoretical and practical articulations.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
