Bodies between biopolitics and sexuality The two concepts that prompted Michel Foucault to reflect most strongly on bodies were biopolitics and sexuality. In the first part of this paper, I will consider the role of the Italian reception of Foucault’s biopolitics. A comparison with the phenomenological approach, which also focuses on the lifeworld and bodies, reveals that Italian reflections on biopolitics show little interest in bodies. The second part will explore the relationship between sex and sexuality and the ori- gins of Foucault’s interest in bodies as a social domain. Finally, the impact of this line of enquiry on contemporary philosophical debate will be assessed.

Abstract
Bodies between biopolitics and sexuality The two concepts that prompted Michel Foucault to reflect most strongly on bodies were biopolitics and sexuality. In the first part of this paper, I will consider the role of the Italian reception of Foucault’s biopolitics. A comparison with the phenomenological approach, which also focuses on the lifeworld and bodies, reveals that Italian reflections on biopolitics show little interest in bodies. The second part will explore the relationship between sex and sexuality and the ori- gins of Foucault’s interest in bodies as a social domain. Finally, the impact of this line of enquiry on contemporary philosophical debate will be assessed.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
