The regulation of age in relation to political rights has become a central issue in comparative public law. Current debates focus both on lowering the minimum age for suffrage and eligibility, to encourage youth participation, and on introducing maximum age limits for elective or institutional offices, to promote generational turnover. These reforms raise tensions between competence and adaptability, while also posing profound constitutional and ethical questions. This paper examines legal frameworks and reform proposals in selected jurisdictions, with particular attention to their democratic implications and the challenges of political representation in rapidly evolving societies.

Abstract
The regulation of age in relation to political rights has become a central issue in comparative public law. Current debates focus both on lowering the minimum age for suffrage and eligibility, to encourage youth participation, and on introducing maximum age limits for elective or institutional offices, to promote generational turnover. These reforms raise tensions between competence and adaptability, while also posing profound constitutional and ethical questions. This paper examines legal frameworks and reform proposals in selected jurisdictions, with particular attention to their democratic implications and the challenges of political representation in rapidly evolving societies.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
