The Revealed Structure. Drawing between Construction and Form

The paper, written by the guest editors of this journal issue, introduces the themes of the call for papers entitled "The Revealed Structure. Drawing between Construction and Form", examining the relationship between drawing and structural order in architectural form. Structure, often latent, generates and governs form, while drawing makes its underlying relationships legible, assuming a central cognitive role within a theoretical tradition that recognizes geometry as the fundamental tool for constructing and describing form. From this perspective, the paper retraces the historical development of descriptive geometry, understood as both a theoretical and an applied discipline, in which drawing functions simultaneously as a means of representation and as a heuristic and generative device.

Il contributo, scritto dai curatori del numero della rivista, introduce le tematiche della call dal titolo: "La struttura rivelata. Il disegno tra costruzione e forma" analizzando il rapporto tra disegno e ordine strutturale nella forma architettonica. La struttura, spesso latente, genera e regola la forma, mentre il disegno ne rende leggibili le relazioni, assumendo un ruolo conoscitivo centrale, all’interno di una tradizione teorica che riconosce nella geometria lo strumento fondamentale per la costruzione e la descrizione della forma. In questa prospettiva si ripercorrono le tappe dell’evoluzione storica della geometria descrittiva, intesa come sapere teorico e applicativo, in cui il disegno è insieme strumento di rappresentazione e dispositivo euristico e generativo.
