Attraversamenti critici del Rapporto Montagne Italia 2025 UNCEM: governance, immaginari e soggettività emergenti delle montagne italiane

This article offers a critical reading of the Rapporto Montagne Italia 2025 UNCEM, focusing on the reconfiguration of governance, imaginaries and emerging subjectivities in Italian mountain territories. It examines Green Communities as a paradigmatic device for sustainable development, highlighting their role in mediating between ecological transition, institutional innovation and local agency. Through an analysis of the SNAI (National Strategy for Inner Areas) experience intersected with the findings of Part G of the Rapporto on public perceptions and social representations of mountain areas, the paper reveals tensions between emancipatory narratives and persistent paternalistic or urban-centric discourses. The findings underline the ambivalent status of the mountain as both symbolic landscape and contested political subject, calling for a rethinking of policy frameworks and discursive practices capable of recognising mountain territories as active, relational and transformative spaces within contemporary socio-ecological dynamics.
