The Cypriot border is not just a line of separation but a spatial device that generates marginality. The buffer zone, created to contain the conflict, has crystallized an urban and social fracture, turning neighborhoods into suspended spaces. Marginality emerges through economic decline and urban discontinuity. However, initiatives for the reappropriation of collective space, whether grassroots or institutionalized, challenge this condition by transforming restricted areas into places of new social interaction. The border, once a rigid barrier, becomes a dynamic threshold, redefining identity and belonging.

Abstract
The Cypriot border is not just a line of separation but a spatial device that generates marginality. The buffer zone, created to contain the conflict, has crystallized an urban and social fracture, turning neighborhoods into suspended spaces. Marginality emerges through economic decline and urban discontinuity. However, initiatives for the reappropriation of collective space, whether grassroots or institutionalized, challenge this condition by transforming restricted areas into places of new social interaction. The border, once a rigid barrier, becomes a dynamic threshold, redefining identity and belonging.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
