The seismic performance of the San Giovannello Church, located in Gerace (Italy), is investi-gated utilizing advanced nonlinear time-history analysis (NTHA). The selected case studyrepresents an iconic cultural heritage asset threatened by the site's high seismic hazard. Thenumerical modeling of the church is based on the finite element approach, adopting the con-crete damage plasticity model for the masonry material, which adequately mimics the nonlin-ear response of masonry. Both in-plane and out-of-plane failure mechanisms for all fourfacades of the church are investigated. The NTHA is performed using four sets of recordedground motions selected to be representative of the seismic hazard at four return periods, ranging from 10 to 475 years. Each set includes ten time histories, consisting of two horizon-tal components. To account for site-specific soil conditions, one-dimensional site responseanalysis is performed for each selected ground motion, while topographic effects are incorpo-rated using amplification factors from previous studies. Results highlight a high seismic vul-nerability and the formation of local failure mechanisms even for relatively low seismicintensities. Abstract
