The Unequal Space: Architecture, Urgency and Possibility

This keynote speech addresses the theme of *unequal space* as a concrete manifestation of contemporary social and cultural fragilities, highlighting the role of architecture in shaping new forms of spatial justice. Through the concept of the “intermediate space” — between home and city, individual and community — the text reflects on the need to rethink public space as a place of relationship, inclusion, and care. The speech intertwines theoretical references, design experiences, and contemporary case studies, from the Masterplan for Viterbo to the Fellini Museum in Rimini, and the *Tokyo Toilet* project portrayed in Wim Wenders’ film *Perfect Days*. The result is a vision of architecture as an ethical and political practice, capable of transforming even ordinary and invisible spaces into devices of dignity, participation, and coexistence.
