Surgeon preferences for self-treatment in locally advanced non–small cell lung cancer: Would we practice what we preach?

Recent trials have shown that the preoperative, postoperative, or perioperative use of immunotherapy agents or targeted therapies with or without chemotherapy improves outcomes for selected groups of patients with locally advanced resectable non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the extent to which healthcare providers have adopted these evolving approaches is unknown, particularly as it may pertain to their hypothetical own potential treatment. In particular, the risk perception of surgeons playing the role of patients and undergoing multimodal treatment in different hypothetical scenarios provides thoughtprovoking perspective that may help identify knowledge and evidence gaps for future investigations and educational activities.
