This contribution aims to provide a concise overview of fibromyalgia, offering updated information on its clinical presentation, prevalence, and potential mechanisms underlying its development and persistence. The chapter then explores the role of alexithymia as a risk factor for the onset of mental and physical conditions, and its impact on coping with the challenges posed by fibromyalgia. Additionally, a literature review delves into studies investigating the connection between alexithymia and fibromyalgia. The chapter concludes with a discussion on clinical implications and future prospects. Furthermore, a brief review of the effectiveness of complementary/alternative non-pharmacological treatments and psychological/psychotherapeutic interventions in alleviating fibromyalgia symptoms will be presented.
