This article presents the results of stratigraphic investigations conducted at in the House of the Wedding of Hercules (VII 9, 47) in Pompeii, focusing particularly on its floor decorations. Excavations carried out by Sapienza University of Rome since 1995 have enabled the reconstruction of the building’s history from its foundation in the 2nd century BC to renovations following the earthquake of 62 AD. The study combines archaeological evidence with a critical review of 19th-century drawings by the French architect Jean-Baptiste Ciceron Lesueur to help reconstruct lost decorative schemes. The analysis reveals the technical and stylistic diversity of the pavements, reflecting changes in taste and representation in the urban context of Pompeii between the late Republic and the Julio-Claudian period.
