Civitavecchia and its hinterland provide significant opportunities for studying Roman and Late Ro- man decorated pavements, particularly those unearthed in the first half of the 20th century. The city and its surrounding area preserve a considerable number of high-quality pavements, shedding new light on the function of architectural structures and the transformation of an area that underwent profound changes following the establishment of the Trajanic harbour of Centumcellae. Noteworthy pavements discovered within the urban area include those at Corso Marconi, Piazza del Conservatorio and Largo Plebiscito. Of these, those found in the courtyard of Forte Michelangelo are particularly noteworthy, although they remain insufficiently investigated. Significant examples in the hinterland include the pavements from the Terme Taurine, the Villa of Cappelletto, the Villa of Torre Valdaliga, and the Columnae site.
