This paper traces the residences of the Bernini family in the city of Rome, with a particular focus on Gian Lorenzo's quintessential home: the palace in Via della Mercede. A reassessment of well-known sources, together with the discovery of new documents and drawings, allows for an in-depth study of the architectural features of the building designed by Bernini as a place of residence, work, and representation, which have been lost due to twentieth-century alterations.
