The preservation of industrial heritage should be approached as a field of study open to the historical issues of labor and material culture, employing an interdisciplinary approach that spans economics, sociology, architecture, urban planning, and restoration. Starting from this premise, the following contribution focuses on the tobacco factories of the Sannio region, which have been little studied in all their complexity to date. Specifically, the research aims to expand knowledge and identify new uses for the former “Salvione-Parente” factory in Amorosi (Benevento), also with a view to enhancing rural communities. In this context, knowledge refers to the rigorous process of investigating the architectural structure in all its aspects—historical, artistic, dimensional, material, and constructive—to guide conservation efforts in line with its tangible and intangible values. The restoration proposal, conversely, outlines methodologies, intervention techniques, and new perspectives for the reuse of the factory. The phases of this contribution are intrinsically linked: knowledge is the foundational act and an integral component of the restoration project; the latter translates into direct intervention on the building as a document of itself, respecting the value and quality of the work.
