Lament and Creation in Rilke · The essay analyses the theme of the Klage (lament) in Rainer Maria Rilke’s poetic work, highlighting its generative function and its close relationship with poetic creation, spirituality and existential quest and the poet’s dialogue with religious tradition. Lament is placed on the threshold between death and life, the human and the divine, the sayable and the unsayable. Beginning with the Sonnets to Orpheus, where the interweaving of praise (Rühmung) and lament reaches a mature synthesis, the text shows how Klage permeates Rilke’s entire production: from the earliest compositions, through The Book of Hours and the Neue Gedichte, to the Requiem, the Duino Ele gies and his later works.

Il saggio analizza il tema della Klage (lamento) nell’opera poetica di Rainer Maria Rilke, mettendone in luce la funzione generativa, la relazione profonda con la creazione poetica, la spiritualità, la ricerca esistenziale e il dialogo del poeta con la tradizione religiosa. Il lamento si colloca sulla soglia tra morte e vita, umano e divino, dicibile e indicibile. A partire dai Sonetti a Orfeo, dove l’intreccio tra lode (Rühmung) e lamento raggiunge una sintesi matura, il testo mostra come la Klage percorra trasversalmente tutta la produzione di Rilke: dai primi componimenti, attraverso il Libro d’ore e i Neue Gedichte, fino ai Requiem, alle Elegie Duinesi e ai testi finali.
