This article aims to analyze Andrea Camilleri’s authorship as a form of contemporary metaliterary reflection. To this end, some of his works will be examined, in particular those linked to the presence of his most famous character, Montalbano. Riccardino is the last novel written by Camilleri linked to this character and will constitute the center of the analysis. This novel breaks down the barrier between author and character, as the character attempts to free himself from the control of his author-creator. It features a typologically complex narrative, incorporating innovative storytelling structures.
