The scientific literature on the social representation of gender-based violence (GBV) has extensively documented the presence of prejudices and stereotypes that produce distorted and biased narratives. Far less attention has been devoted to digital information spaces. On this basis, the paper investigates how three Italian digital platforms, Torcha, Will Ita, and Factanza, have represented GBV in their Instagram posts over a one-year period. The findings depict a scenario that diverges markedly from mainstream press coverage, as these platforms tend to create spaces for discussion and for the challenging of stereotyped representations of GBV, prioritizing an informational and educational approach over the mere reporting of news events. Compared to traditional media outlets, these new actors seem to assume a partially different role, as they function not only as complementary or alternative sources of information, but also as a cultural tool whose primary objective extends beyond the dissemination of news.

Abstract
Compared to traditional media outlets, these new actors seem to assume a partially different role, as they function not only as complementary or alternative sources of information, but also as a cultural tool whose primary objective extends beyond the dissemination of news.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
