L'interno come dispositivo da cui guardare al mondo

The text reflects on the role of interior space—often implicit but nonetheless significant—within doctoral research in architecture, understood as a field in which sensory and intellectual dimensions intertwine with the human experience of the built environment. The selection of six doctoral theses reveals a wide range of thematic and methodological approaches, even though not all of them formally belong to the disciplinary field of Interior Design. What emerges is an idea of the interior as habitus, that is, as an interpretative device through which architectural design can be read across different scales, from the detail to the overall vision, and through which relationships with the physical, cultural and social context, as well as with the arts and related disciplines, can be explored. The theses, originating from six national schools of architecture, address topics ranging from monographic studies to housing, exhibition design, and the relationship between architecture, art and landscape, employing diverse research tools such as archival investigations, fieldwork, narratives, comparisons, technical redrawings and graphic reinterpretations. Taken together, they testify to the vitality of contemporary design research, exploring the architectural phenomenon through interior space as a privileged critical lens.

l testo presenta una riflessione sulla presenza, spesso implicita ma significativa, del tema dello spazio interno nella ricerca dottorale in architettura, inteso come ambito in cui si intrecciano dimensione sensoriale, intellettuale e rapporto dell’essere umano con lo spazio costruito. La selezione di sei tesi mostra una ricca varietà di approcci tematici e metodologici, pur non appartenendo tutte formalmente al settore degli Interni. Emerge un’idea di interno come habitus, ossia come dispositivo interpretativo capace di leggere il progetto architettonico in chiave transcalare, dal dettaglio alla visione d’insieme, e di cogliere relazioni con il contesto fisico, culturale e sociale, nonché con le arti e le discipline affini. Le tesi, provenienti da sei scuole nazionali di architettura, affrontano temi che spaziano dalla dimensione monografica, all’abitare, agli allestimenti, al rapporto tra architettura, arte e paesaggio, adottando strumenti diversi quali ricerche d’archivio, indagini sul campo, narrazioni, comparazioni, ridisegni e reinterpretazioni grafiche. Nel loro insieme, esse testimoniano la vitalità della ricerca contemporanea sul progetto, esplorando il fenomeno architettonico a partire dallo spazio interno come chiave critica privilegiata.
