For a few years, Rome has gained solid experience in the field of grassroots participatory activities, as evidenced by a series of original proposals put forward by civil society, which have identified the city's many abandoned buildings and industrial heritage sites as an important opportunity to launch cultural and social initiatives, while at the same time rescuing these places from marginalization and decay. Starting from this premise, this contribution -through the different stories of some disused production facilities on the eastern outskirts of the city - aims to reflect on the possible connections between protection, conservation, and new models of governance stimulated by bottom-up initiatives and on the impact of the latter on the processes of reinterpretation and enhancement of these specific sites. In particular, in the best-known case study, that of the former SNIA-Viscosa factory, we will see how the synergistic contribution of traditional and new approaches has succeeded in creating a true Heritage Community capable of stimulating the search for innovative proposals to manage this place, an original intertwining of history, nature, and architecture, with a view to its overall preservation.

Abstract
In particular, in the best-known case study, that of the former SNIA-Viscosa factory, we will see how the synergistic contribution of traditional and new approaches has succeeded in creating a true Heritage Community capable of stimulating the search for innovative proposals to manage this place, an original intertwining of history, nature, and architecture, with a view to its overall preservation.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
