The work analyzes the wave propagation characteristics of submarine cables with periodically grounded sheaths. We employ recently proposed formulas to compute the per-unit-length parameters of cables buried in a three-layer media. The characteristic impedance and modal propagation constants are computed through the transfer matrix method and the theory of multiconductor transmission lines with periodic grounding.
